  •  Pipeline co. gives $25K to DV Schools

    SHOHOLA- A lot was covered during Delaware Valley’s School District board meeting on Thursday April 18th at 7 p.m., in their Shohola Elementary School Cafeteria. The school district was given $25,000 from the Kinder Morgan Foundation. The grant was given for the school’s career and technical education programs. Delaware Valley’s two middle school, and high school also received $5,000 grants from the Kinder Morgan Foundation.
    " We are very appreciative," District Superintendent, John Bell added.
    Kinder Morgan is the company that owns Tennessee Gas Pipeline LLC, which is currently upgrading their natural gas pipeline through eastern Pike County and in other sections.
    According the their web site, Kinder Morgan is the largest midstream and the third largest energy company (based on combined enterprise value) in North America.
    Passes tax abatement
    Delaware Valley School Board members passed the Tax Abatement Program, LERTA (Local Economic Revitalization Tax Assistance Act ), for Shohola Township. The board adopted the Resolution for the Tax Abatement Program. The program LERTA will help give eligible properties tax breaks on improvements in the Shohola Township.
    The school board also took some time to recognize the High School Drama Club. The students recently put on the play "Beauty and the Beast." The students sang the song from the play, "Be Our Guest," but with a drama club spin, for the board members.
    Other items that were discuss at the April 18th board meeting were, the adoption of several Board Policies such as, Child/student Abuse; Publications Program and School Visitors,
    For the full list of the Policies go to the Delaware Valley School District web site. Among the other policies was Policy 108 Adoption of Textbooks. Board members encourage parents to check out the two new textbooks in the district office. The new textbooks are open for adoption in May.
    Also, the board urges parents to take advantage of the Open Forum on Educational Excellence Committee Meetings, where parents can get current information about issues that are going on. The next Open Forum on Educational Excellence Committee Meeting will be on Thursday May 16th at 6 p.m., at the Delaware Valley Administrative Offices.
    The board members also approved the Bids for the Miscellaneous 2013 Capital Improvements for constructional work for projects that will be done other the summer. They also approved for the Board President, Bill Greenlaw to send a letter to the DEP (Department of Environmental Protection), concerning the "Sewage Facilities Planning Module Review for Onlot Sewage Systems Proposed in High Quality and Exceptional Value Watersheds."
