  • When Club member Tony Scullin of Sarasota, Florida, was building a new deck for his backyard, he wanted to make sure the railing met code requirements. The code specified that spindles be spaced with an opening no greater than 4 in., so he built a simple spindle-placement jig from scrap 2x4 material. By hanging the jig over the top rail and placing it against the post, he determined the location of the first spindle. Then he placed the jig against each installed spindle to achieve the correct spacing for the next in line. Brought to you by: American Profile
