MILFORD- Pike County Arts and Crafts Inc. will host artist Janet Campbell for their May First Sunday demonstration on Sunday May 5 at 1:30p.m. Campbell will demonstrate the watercolor technique of "pouring" watercolors. Instead of using a brush, the colors are mixed with water in containers and poured onto the paper. The white of the paper is saved by masking, therefore planning is often involved. Campbell fell in love with watercolor in the 1990s. Her paintings reflect a transparent and loose style. Early watercolor experiences and plein air painting classes allowed Campbell to focus on landscape painting. Living on the Shawangunk Ridge in the lower Catskills, close to the Bashakill Wetlands in Sullivan County and near the farms of Orange County, Campbell is never at a loss for inspiring subjects Recently her interests have expanded to include figure work and the painting of shelter animals. Campbell work was accepted into the 2013 American Watercolor Society Exhibit in NYC. She won the Dot and Dick Price Award at the 2012 NorthEast Watercolor Society International Juried Exhibition. Her work is represented by the Wallkill River School and Gallery in Montgomery, NY where she teaches classes and workshops in watercolor. The public is invited to the free event to learn about the process and techniques of making art. People will also have a chance to meet Campbell and the members of PCAC while enjoying refreshments. PCAC is in its 63rd year and continues to provide the regional artists opportunities to exhibit, teach and meet other artists while promoting the arts in Pike County The event is held at the Milford Borough Hall, 109 Catherine St. Milford.
