The National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) in conjunction with the United States Postal Service will sponsor a food drive, "Stamp Out Hunger," on Saturday, May 11.
Residents throughout Pennsylvania are asked to help feed the needy, by donating non-perishable goods to letter carriers. The carriers will collect the goods that should be left by mailboxes before the carriers collect the mail on May 11.
A one-day event, the food drive is part of a nationwide drive designed to fill food bank pantries through summer months.
The 21st annual NALC National Food Drive to, "Stamp Out Hunger," is the largest one-day food drive in the nation. The drive is held annually on the second Saturday in May in over 10,000 cities and towns in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Last year, carriers collected 70 million pounds of food. But, since the first food drive, over one billion pounds of food has been collected.
