LAKE REGON- On Wednesday, May 29, the American Red Cross Wayne Pike Chapterís Disaster Education Team will host a Home Alone Emergency Preparedness Workshop for 5th grade elementary students at Wallenpaupack North Intermediate School in Pike County.
Two workshops will be held at the school, which is located on 187 Atlantic Ave., off Route 6 east of Hawley. The first workshop will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and the second workshop will run from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
Joann Hudak, Assistant Superintendent of Lake Wallenpaupack School District commented, "Recent school tragedies exemplify the need for all members of our community, including students, to receive training in emergency preparedness. Our hope is that these workshops will encourage students to work with their parents to develop a family emergency preparedness plan."
Jim Riendhardt, executive director said, "The Red Cross Home Alone Emergency Preparedness Program provides students with knowledge, skills and confidence so they will be better prepared to respond to emergencies, especially if they are home alone." Workshop station include hands-on training on topics such as: first aid, pet first aid, home fires, flooding, tornadoes, storms and how to create a family disaster plan. These workshops are grant funded through the United Way of Pike County, Shell Oil Corporation and Paupack Sailing Club.
