  • BLOOMING GROVE TWP. - At the Blooming Grove Township Supervisors' meeting, June 3rd, attorney John Steigh of Milford asked for a public hearing to amend the Covenants and Restrictions governing the business park on Well Road.
Steigh was representing a potential buyer of the business park; Pete Helms, President and owner of Davis R. Chant Realtors, was also present, representing the potential buyer.
The Board agreed to set a hearing for Monday, June 17 at 6 p.m. to discuss the proposal. Public comment is encouraged at the hearing, which will be at the Township building.
No more information was made public about the proposed use of the business park, which was created about 10 years ago but has not seen any development.
Meanwhile, the Township also approved a tax relief program specific to encouraging new business development. Prior to the meeting, the board met about the approval of ordinance #64 for the new five-year tax abatement program provided through the Local Economic Revitalization Assistance (LERTA) law. Taxes on capital improvements are abated for five years, with the tax gradually phased in. The municipality needs to first designate an area where it will apply and approve the program. The School District and County may then follow suit with the same tax relief, to serve as an incentive for business and job creation.
Shohola Township has also enacted it and others have it under consideration. Wallenpaupack School District and Delaware Valley School District, as well as the Pike County Commissioners, are supportive. He said the local municipalities are the lead agencies with the ordinance and, "nothing happens unless we start the ball."
The Blooming Grove Township Supervisors meet on the first and third Mondays at 7 p.m. at the Township facility at 488 Route 739, next to the Blooming Grove Fire Station in Lords Valley.
