HONESDALE - On Friday May 31 at 7:15 a.m., Honesdale Borough Police responded to the Wayne Memorial Hospital Emergency Department for a reported assault.

An investigation revealed that 26 year old Thomas Coffin was at Wayne Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Department and he was being uncooperative.

While staff was attempting to calm him, he did stab a doctor in the left shoulder area with a ball point pen, police said. Security intervened and was assaulted by Coffin. Coffin also threatened the security and medical staff. Coffin was restrained and later transported to another facility. The doctor was injured and required medical attention.

A warrant was obtained charging Coffin with three counts of Aggravated Assault, all felonies and two counts of Terroristic Threats, both misdemeanors. He was taken into custody on Wednesday, June 5th and arraigned before District Judge Ron Edwards. He was remanded to the Wayne County Correctional Facility in lieu of bail. He is scheduled to appear in Central Court on Wednesday June 12th at 9 a.m.
