  • A search was still underway Monday June 17 for a lost kayaker on the Lackawaxen River near Kimbles that fell into the water, Friday.
Two kayakers had fallen from their crafts; one made it to shore. Emergency responders, along with the National Park Service, continued the search through the weekend.
A message has not yet been returned from the PA Fish & Boat Commission, which is the lead agency.
Loren Goering, National Park Service, said Monday that the kayaker was still missing. The Park Service had been called to assist and has been offering both boat and road patrols.
    Both kayaks have been recovered.
At 3:11 p.m., Friday, a call was sent out for emergency rescue agencies to Kimbles Road and Township Road 487. Forest Volunteer Fire Department; Lackawaxen Fire Department; Greeley Fire Department sent boats, rescue vehicles or support; Central sent a bursh ttruck and ATV; Dingman Twp., Westfall Twp. and Ledgedale Fire Departments sent boats and Tafton Fire & Rescue sent support.
Kayak users and white water rafters frequent the Lackawaxen River at times of high water and rapids created by the PPL hydroelectric station at Kimbles, where water from Lake Wallenpaupack is discharged.
