HAWLEY - July 4th week is lining up with plenty of celebration and family activities in the Hawley region. In addition to the parade in Hawley and fireworks at Lake Wallenpaupack, a carnival is coming to Bingham Park, July 2- 6.
Amusement rides provided by AEB Amusements, games and food are planned. There is no charge to enter the grounds. Unlimited rides will be available for $13, with a wrist band provided.
Hours for the carnival are Tuesday July 2 and Wednesday July 3, from 6 to 9:45 p.m.; Thursday July 4, from 2 to 6 p.m.
Proceeds benefit Hawley Borough Police and Hawley Parks & Recreation Commission. The carnival resumed last year after being sponsored for many years by the former Hawley VFW Post.
--- Parade, fireworks
The Independence Day Parade starts at 12 noon in Hawley. Lineup occurs on Church Street and Maple Avenue; the parade heads north on Main Avenue to Bingham Park. The Borough of Hawley hosts the parade.
After the parade and carnival, look forward to the fireworks at Lake Wallenpaupack, launched from the Wallenpaupack Area High School parking lot.
The rain date for the fireworks is Friday July 5th.
The fireworks are hosted by the Pocono Lake Region Chamber of Commerce and supported by business sponsors and individual donations.
Debbie Gillette, Executive Director of the Chamber, said that as of Thursday- a week before the fireworks- they were still about $2,300 shy in pledges. Normally by this time they would expect to have the whole amount pledged. Some large corporate donors cut their pledge in half. Gillette said she understands that businesses face a struggle.
The cost of the display is between $22,000 and $23,000.
If you would like to be a sponsor for the Lake Wallenpaupack 4th of July Fireworks, you may mail your donation to: Pocono Lake Region Chamber, 2512 Route 6, Suite 2, Hawley, PA 18428.
