  • For children who enjoy science and hearing stories, they are invited to join Rangers Diefenbach,
Harding and Poston for another fun season of "Backyard Biology" and "River Readings." The popular youth programs will be offered again this summer at Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River.
"Backyard Biology," is a program that teaches children about a variety of biological topics
through fun activities. Designed for children ages 7 – 12, the program takes place every Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. from July 10th to August 14th in the backyard of the Zane
Grey Museum. This year's topics include gardening, composting, water quality, water testing,
wildflowers, wildlife, the Delaware watershed and much more.
Through stories and crafts, the "River Readings" program will allow children to learn about the Delaware River and the many animals, insects, plants and trees that can be found along the shores of the river. Seasoned Interpretive Park Ranger Josh Poston will explore all the wonders of the Delaware River with the children.
"River Readings" will be Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. and will begin July 11th and will run through August 15th. Everyone is invited to go and enjoy the shade of the maple trees at the Zane Grey Museum in Lackawaxen while listening and learning about the natural world. "River Readings," is geared to children pre-school aged through first grade.
The programs are free of charge and all are welcome. To register for the programs or to learn about other educational programs offered throughout the summer call (570)685-4871.
