Other commitments are preventing Leighton Meester from reprising her role as Carrie Bishop in the upcoming Veronica Mars movie, according to creator Rob Thomas.
Her replacement will be Andrea Estella, the lead singer of one of Thomas' favorite bands, Twin Sister, Thomas told the movie's Kickstarter backers in an e-mail Sunday.
"We needed a performer who could sing in this important role," he explained. "[So I] decided to cast someone from a band I already wanted in the movie."
Estella, who was not familiar with the series prior to being cast, now says she thinks she's perfect for the role. "It's been a bit of dream to be in a movie, especially being a messed up rock princess," Estella said in a statement. "How could I say no? I think the VM fans are going to be very happy!"
Of Meester's departure, Thomas told the Kickstarter backers: "Sadly, [she] was doing a different movie during the same time frame on the wrong coast. In the end, she was unavailable."
Are you disappointed Meester won't be coming back? And do you think Estella will be a good replacement?
