PALMYRA TWP. (PIKE)- Joseph Fluhr, who lives near Hawley and is a science teacher in the East Strousburg Area School District, will share his true story about his childhood Smurf which actually went into outer space.
He is the guest speaker of the Wallenpaupack Historical Society Saturday, July 27 at 7 p.m., at the PPL Wallenpaupack Environmental Learning Center. The public is welcome to attend this free program.
Fluhr's unusual story involves a vinyl Smurf toy figure fashioned in a space suit, Fluhr's life long ambition of being an astronaut, and how by a remarkable series of events, he managed to send his Smurf in his place aboard the International Space Station in 2011.
