Mark your calendars for Saturday, July 27th, as the Wayne Pike Adult Literacy Program (WPALP) presents Family Day for Literacy in Bingham Park.
There will be a Challenger Baseball game, the Yappy Parade as well as hot dogs, lemonade, fresh baked goods, games and activities for children.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Challenger Baseball game begins at 10:30 a.m. Cheer on players from Dingmans Ferry and the Lake Region. The Lake Wallenpaupack team is coached by the Honorable Alan Cooper, District Court Pike County.
A fun-filled day for the whole family includes the family dog! The "Yappy Parade" begins at 1 p.m. This costumed event for dogs is a delight for everyone, said organizers.
Prizes will be awarded in several categories: Best in Show, Funniest, Most Creative and People's Choice. The entrance fee is $5 per dog. All dogs must be leashed and arrive in costume. You can pre-register your dog by calling the literacy office (570)253-3221.
All proceeds benefit the WPALP, a 501(C)3 organization. The vision of the Wayne Pike Adult Literacy Program is to support adults throughout Wayne and Pike counties in their endeavors to function as literate and contributing members of society. Imagine not being able to read this, or directions, a menu, a book… a love letter. Literacy is something most of us take for granted.
"The difference you can make in the life of another person is immeasurable," said WPALP officials.
