Plenty of action was on tap Monday night at Bingham Park as the PrellCo Pinups took on Formula B Hair Design.
Despite the oppressive heat and humidity, Wayne County Women's Softball action went off without a hitch as teams jockey for playoff position coming down the stretch.
On the Diamond
While both squads call the Dugout Field home, it was PrellCo who took up their bats first as they faced Lauren Jonas who was hurling for Formula B.
The Pinups got off to a strong start, scoring Laura Wilcox, Tracy Ledward and Jessica Strasser. Formual B fred back with a lone run by Karley Knapp making it 3-1 at the end of the first.
Neither team scored in the second inning, but Ledward added a run for PrellCo in the thirs while Janet DeLuca gave up three runs, allowing Michele Wilcox, Knapp and Destinee Jonas all to score, tying the game 4-4 as it entered the fourth inning.
Formula B sent three PrellCo ladies down in order in the top of the fourth, but mustered no additional runs when they came to the plate either.
The game remained tied until the bottom of the fifth inning when Formula B stirred once more.
Knapp's lead-off double was followed by a single from Sue Singer.
Laurie Knapp then walked to load the bases for Lori Frick. Her 3-run triple drove in both Knapps and Singer giving Formula B a 7-4 lead.
Frick then scored on an RBI courtesy of Lauren Jonas boosting the score to 8-4 at the end of five.
Ledward and Strasser each singled and then came home on separate RBIs to close the gap to 8-6.
A 2-run triple by Desiree Prell tied the game again and a 1-out sacrifice RBI from Michelle Williamson, driving in Prell for the go ahead run.
Page 2 of 3 - A pop up ended the PrellCo drive and they held on through the end of the sixth inning, sending Formula B's top of the order down without a hit.
After six, it was PrellCo, back in the lead, 9-8.
Jonas sent two batters down on strike in the top of the seventh and a fly out made it three up, three down for PrellCo.
Down by one run, Formula B dug deep and came up big.
A lead-off single by Laurie Knapp was followed by a single by Frick. An error allowed Lauren Jonas to reach first and now the winning run was in scoring position with no outs.
A single by Emily Jonas drove in Knapp to tie the game at 9-9 but a double play took out Frick and Lauren Jonas.
Up to bat came Kohloa, a woman who only needs one name, who sent the ball between first and second, driving in Jonas for the nail-biting win!
"This was a good game," said B's Sue Singer. "We had contributions from everyone and had fun playing today."
The win brings Formula B closer to a .500 record as they now sit at 4-5.
With three games left on the regular schedule and two make-ups, they are in good position to finish with a winning season.
Provided, of course, that they can do well against Ravenhaus, Lake Region, CRVC and Cora's.
Speaking of which…
The Beavers went 2-0 in a double header against Ravenhaus on Monday night as well, bringing their record to 4-1.
Page 3 of 3 - Each game was slated for five innings. The Beavers chewed up Ravenhaus in the first game with a 4 run shutout and won 6-4 in the nightcap.
