Several local players made dramatic impacts before a crowd of 8,000 at Memorial Stadium.

More than 8,000 diehard fans packed the stands on a perfect summer night to witness the official kick-off of the 2013 high school football season.

The 79th Annual Dream Game played out on the turf at Scranton Memorial Stadium Wednesday evening, whetting everyone's appetite for the campaign to come.

Players from Honesdale, Western Wayne, Wallenpaupack Area and North Pocono made dramatic contributions to both sides as the City held on for a wild 35-28 victory.

With this win, the City extends its overall lead in the series to 39-36. Four games have ended in ties.

Jonathan Gillow represented Honesdale. Robbie Siclari and Nikolai Pritchyk played from Western Wayne. Will Hendel, Johnny Jones, Paul Gangoo and Cameron Wolfson made sure Paupack wasn't forgotten.

The game was tied 14-14 at intermission, but the City jetted out to what seemed to be a comfortable lead late in the fourth quarter. However, the County battled right down to the final gun before finally falling.
