A Connecticut man died from his injuries after his pickup collided head-on with a street sweeper vehicle on Route 6, Tuesday morning August 6.
State Police Blooming Grove identified the victim to be Christopher J. McCormack, age 28, of Kensington, CT. The driver of the street sweeper, 64-year old Craig E. Robbins of Waymart, was unhurt.
At 7:04 a.m., McCormack was traveling westbound on Route 6 in the eastbound lane, police said. He was operating a 2003 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck. He was approximately a half mile east of State Route 507 when the car slammed into the street sweeper, a 2005 Freightliner heading east.
Tafton Fire & Rescue was assisted by Hawley Fire Department at the scene. A medical transport helicopter was called in and a landing zone was set up on Interstate 84 at the Route 390 exit.
McCormack died from his injuries at Geisinger Wyoming Valley, said police.
Weather conditions on Route 6 were foggy at the time, said Hawley Deputy Fire Chief Eugene Krause, who was on scene.
Trooper Jeremy Carroll was the investigating officer. Blooming Grove Fire Department was also called to assist with traffic detail and Promised Land Rescue was dispatched to assist at the landing zone with Hawley.
