  • DUI suspect tries to escape police custody

  • William Jude Martin, age 36, of Tafton, attempted to free himself from police custody August 28th, after being arrested for a DUI crash, Cpl. Michael Walsh said. Martin was also arrested on a bench warrant issued from Pike County Court. Martin was in the holding area of the Blooming Grove barracks at 2:40 a.m. when he allegedly attacked a uniformed trooper in an ambush-type manner, police said. The victim, Trooper Jeremy Carroll, was not hurt.
    Martin was arrested at 10:44 p.m. following the crash on Route 6, in the area of PPL Drive, Palmyra Township. Cpl. Walsh said that Martin was operating a 1998 Acura CP, when he struck a Toyota van from behind. Two people in the van received moderate injuries and were transported to Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton.
