Eugene L. Krawitz 83, of Woodbury, NJ died Monday morning, September 10, 2013 at his home.
Mr. Krawitz was the son of the late Simon and Mollie (Glantz) Krawitz. He was born in Hawley on January 15, 1930.
He was a graduate of Hawley High School. Class of 1947; he received a BS degree in Education from E. Stroudsburg University in May of 1954 and he later earned a Master's degree from Bucknell University.
Mr. Krawitz began his education career in the Hawley Public Schools and later moved to W. Deptford, NJ. where he was Chairman of the History Department in the W. Deptford School System.
While still living in Hawley, Mr. Krawitz was very involved in the community and in sports where he was well known in the town as "Murph."
Mr. Krawitz was elected to the local office of Justice of the Peace. He served on the Borough Council of Hawley, the Hawley Fire Department as well as other community affairs.
He played baseball on several local teams. While teaching in Hawley, Mr. Krawitz couched basketball and baseball.
In 1955, he coached the Hawley High School team that won the Wayne County and District 12 PIAA baseball championship. The team won the conference title with a perfect record.
Mr. Krawitz was inducted into the Wayne County Hall of Fame.
Mr. Krawitz was long time fan of both the Giants baseball team as well as the football Giants, and anyone who knew him can attest to his love of sports. He was also an avid fisherman.
Mr. Krawitz was a long time member of the Hawley Lodge No. 305 F&A M.
He was a member of Congregation B'Nai Tikzan-Beth Israel of Washington Township.
He is survived by his wife, Karen (Gelfand), daughters Lisa and Susan, son-in-law Chris, son Michael and two grandsons, Dylan and Devon, his brother, Edwin Krawitz and his wife Barbara; nephew Steven, niece Minda, and several cousins.
Funeral services were held on Thursday September 12 at the Platt Memorial Chapel, Cherry Hill, NJ.
