Believed to be runaway
— Police are investigating a case they say is of a teenage runaway from Honesdale.
According to the Honesdale Borough Police Department, Maddelyn Hayes, 15, was reported missing last Friday. The incident was reported to police on Saturday.
Hayes was last seen in her home at 5 p.m. Friday.
According to Sgt. Ron Kominski, officer in charge of the department, an investigation revealed that Hayes, along with Damian Acosta, 28, had purchased bus tickets. He said it appears they left on the Short Line bus at a 6 p.m. last Friday.
Hayes is 5-feet, 3-inches tall, weighs 160 pounds, has long blond hair and hazel eyes. It is unknown what Hayes was wearing when she left the area.
Police said it is unknown where the two were traveling but Acosta does have ties in New York, Florida and California.
Anyone with information about Hayes or Acosta is asked to contact Honesdale police at 570-253-1900. All calls will be kept confidential.
The family of Hayes has also contacted the Center for Search & Investigations, a relatively new national organization which strives to bring home missing children alive.
