Margaret Ellen Myers Rickert, RN, 92, of Honesdale, born Oct. 9, 1920, died at home on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Walter Rickert on June 5, 1979. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Katherine Myers, a brother Franklin J. Myers, and a sister Kathleen Hill.
She is survived by her son, Bob and his wife Deb and her son David. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jennifer and husband Mike; Jamie and wife Sarah; Jody and wife Jenny, Maggie, and great-grandchildren Charlie and Logan. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Margaret was a graduate of the Honesdale Catholic School, Class of 1938. On May 18, 1942, she graduated from the Mercy School of Nursing in Scranton, immediately starting her nursing career at the Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale.
Margaret took every duty in stride and gratefully accepted without question, or though of self, the many responsibilities necessary to speed in her patients healing and comfort.
She stayed on the hospital staff as a registered nurse, devoting 50 years of her life working along sider her beloved nurses an doctors dedication her services in helping others. She was also a private duty nurse traveling throughout the community in times of need.
Margaret was a lifetime member of the Catholic Daughters and St. Mary Magdalene's Parish. She was also a lifetime member of the Historical Society and was a local historian.
Following cremation, private services will be held at a later time.
