  • PA State Police will conduct a car seat checkup this Saturday, Sept. 21 at the State Police Blooming Grove barracks on Route 402, Pike County. The public event is free and runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
    Troopers certified as Child Passenger Safety Technicians will be available to inspect and re-install child passenger seats at no charge. No appointment is necessary.
    A similar event is planned that day at the WNEP-TV parking lot, 16 Montage Mountain Road, Moosic, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Both events are part of National Child passenger Safety Week.
    Under Pennsylvania Title 75, the PA Vehicle Code, failure to restrain a child under four years of age in an approved child restraint device constitutes a primary offense. It is also a primary offense for children four to eight years of age to not utilize a booster seat. The fine for either offense is $75 plus court costs. It is also a primary offense for drivers and passengers eight to 18 years of age to not be restrained anywhere in the vehicle, punishable by a $10 fine.
