  • Monday morning, the doors to the new Pike County Public Library opened its doors to the public at 119 East Harford Street. Slowly patrons strolled in, checking out books, surfing the internet and just taking advantage of the many resources the library provides.
A member of the board of directors, Elspeth Goodin said the completion of the new library is a, "dream that's become a reality." Throughout the process, Goodin said the support the board has received has been outstanding. And now, everything has come together beautifully. The continuous support, she said, has been overwhelming.
As people were exploring the new facility, a vase of colorful flowers made its way to the reference desk. The mixture of flowers were a gift to the library, from the board.
Only a few minutes after the doors opened, Lisa Schotsch who is a circulation clerk, helped John Walsh get his very first library card at the PCPL. Schotsch has worked at the library for seven years and with the new facility, the room of the building is something that has her excited.
Walsh, who never belonged to a library in Milford, said he plans to use the facility often. Looking at the western section, he said the new facility is nice.
A volunteer at the PCPL's book sales, Robyn Stoddard said the new library is great because of the light from the large windows and the spacious parking lot.
An avid library visitor, Laura Pollard said she was excited to use the new library. She called it, "beautiful," because it is spacious.
Although Monday was a soft opening, there will be a grand opening on October 26.
The phone number 570-296-8211 remains the same. The hours are also the same, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Wednesday, 12- 7 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. The library is located on East Harford Street (Route 209) less than a block from their old location.
