Leo L. Sporer, 88 of Blooming Grove, died on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at his home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris M. Rickard on January 4, 2002. The couple married on October 6, 1951.

Born on September 23, 1925 in Honesdale, he was the son of the late Leo W. and Florentine Greenfield Sporer. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II serving in both the European and Pacific Theaters. Leo began his career as a Deputy Game Warden in 1949 and retired in 1980. During that time, he also became the caretaker and superintendent at Blooming Grove Hunting and Fishing Club. Enjoying his work and the outdoors, Leo enjoyed hunting, fishing and was well known for his trapping skills. Leo was also recognized by the Pike County Conservation District for his work at Blooming Grove.

He was a member of St. John Neumann and Good Shepherd Catholic Community, attending Good Shepherd Catholic Church where he was the caretaker. He was also a member of the Ecker Haupt VFW Post 5635 in Lackawaxen. Leo will be remembered as a good friend to many.

Surviving are his sons Rick Sporer and wife Kate and Leo W. Sporer all of Greeley; his daughter Kathy Petroski of Alaska; brothers Jack Sporer and wife Pat of Honesdale, Jerry Sporer and wife Dixie of NY and Tom Sporer and wife Kathy of Honesdale; grandchildren Sherry Principal, Jonna Sporer, Jessie Sporer, Jacob Sporer and Jason Sporer and his wife Christina; great granchildren Dylan, Chase and Dylan; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sisters Betty Polt and Lois Young.

Cremation services are being arranged by Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 11th at 10 am at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Blooming Grove. Interment will military honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Honesdale.
