Seasonal items addressed at Hawley Borough Council, Oct. 9, affect the annual rite of leaf raking and burning, and Halloween.
Hawley Fire Chief Scott Mead asked Council to set dates when leaf burning will be allowed in the Borough. The period of October 13 through October 31 was approved, and may be renewed if conditions warrant. Councilman Joseph Fauble voted in opposition of the motion to schedule leaf burning.
When raking up leaves, Borough residents are reminded not to rake them into over storm drains, and to keep leaves away from storm water ditches.
The Hawley Halloween Parade is set for Thursday, October 31 at 5 p.m. Lineup is at 4:30 p.m. on Church Street near the Falls Port restaurant. The parade heads up Main Avenue to Bingham Park, where costume judging takes place.
Keeping with tradition, Borough Council members join in on the fun by volunteering to stuff bags of donated candy, which will be given out at the park.
