  •   Justin Hoffmann and James Shook were nominated and approved for the Lake Wallenpaupack Watershed Management (LWWMD) board of directors, Oct. 16th.
LWWMD is a nonprofit alliance of stakeholders concerned with the protection of water quality of Lake Wallenpaupack and its 219 square mile watershed. Its board of directors includes “at large” members, county commissioners, township supervisors, representatives from the the counties (“at large”), the county conservation districts sharing the watershed, representatives from the Marine Trade Association,PPL, Lake Wallenpaupack Watershed Association and the sewage treatment plants impacting the lake.
Hoffmann is an engineer with Kiley Associates in Lakeville. Shook is the co-owner of Lake Region and Hawley IGA Markets and very involved in community fund-raising through the Lake Region Dock Foundation.
They were named to succeed Craig Smythe, who submitted his resignation due to other commitments, and Carl Gwozdziewycz, who has relocated to Florida.
Coulby Dunn, who nominated Hoffmann and Shook, said that both are very excited to serve.
        • LWWMD recently upgraded its web site, www.wallenpaupackwatershed.org. Lockdata Technologies in Hawley did the work. The board approved allowing Lockdata to do the web hosting. Free e-mail addresses will be offered. The board decided on a new e-mail address for the general public, info@wallenpaupackwatershed.org and another for the District Administrator, Nick Spinelli. Their old e-mail addresses will work for a certain period to forward to the new.
    • The Fall Foliage Paddle event was recently held, with 26 people participating. Spinelli said it was a great way to engage people's interest in topics of the watershed. Paddle events are expected to be announced for the Spring and Fall of 2014.
    • The final water sampling of the lake for the season was scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 22. The District's sampling boat will then be brought to shore for winter storage.
The LWWMD board meets on the third Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at the PPL Wallenpaupack Environmental Learning Center. The LWWMD office may be contacted at 570-226-3865.
