  • To celebrate the season of giving, Geisinger Blood Center is inviting its donors to “triple” the impact of their blood donation through Nov. 25 by bringing along a non-perishable food item to their scheduled mobile blood drive.

During this season of giving and thanks, blood donations are especially needed.  To support local patients in need Geisinger Blood Center is asking donors to make an appointment to donate blood.  While supporting area lives with their donation of blood, donors can also assist WNEP’s “Feed a Friend” campaign by donating a food pantry item.  Along with transporting the gathered items to selected food pantries, Geisinger Blood Center will also donate $1 to WNEP’s Feed-a-Friend campaign for each participating donor through Nov. 25.

While donations of canned items (within expiration dates) are encouraged, food pantries also benefit from items like cooking oil, dried beans, white and brown rice, and laundry detergent. Paper products like paper plates, paper towels, napkins, facial tissue and toilet paper are also in demand.

“Our blood donation sites and local food pantries share the same values by supporting the strength, hope and courage of people in our community,” notes Mike Quint, Geisinger Blood Center director.  “In the spirit of Thanksgiving, our goal is to help local food pantries to provide meals to feed the hungry, and support the lives of the people in our community.”
