WAYNE/PIKE - A "Holiday Mail for Heroes" card signing was held Friday at the Wayne Pike Chapter of the American Red Cross office in Hawley. People signed holiday cards for members of the United States military, their families and veterans. There are currently 2 million members of the U.S. military serving in the country and abroad and 24 million U.S. veterans.
Linda Barney, Office/Volunteer Manager of the Wayne Pike Chapter, announced that from now until December 3rd, holiday cards (envelopes not needed) and a drop box will be available inside the entrance of the Hawley Silk Mill and at the Chapter’s office on the 2nd floor (Suite 204) for visitors to sign. She urges all to write a little note on a card to say thank you or send encouragement and holiday cheer to the men and women that protect our freedoms every day.
Because members of the military will not be with their families during the holiday, Barney said people need to let the servicemen and women know that their hard work and dedication is truly appreciated. If you are unable to drop by please consider mailing a holiday card to ‘Holiday Mail for Heroes’ P. O. Box 5456 Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456. Cards must be post marked no later than December 6, 2013.
