Michael "Mickey" R. Henry, 55, a resident of Wallenpaupack Lake Estates, died Thursday night , November 28, 2013 in the Celtic Hospice Inpatient Unit, Dunmore after a brave battle with cancer. His wife of 25 years is the former Donna Rudolph.
Born in Astoria, Queens on May 18, 1958, he was the son of the late Robert and Loretta Tucciarone Henry. He was a member of Parker Hill Church, Dickson City Campus. He was a New York City Detective in Manhattan.
As a Detective for the NYPD, he worked at the World Trade Center on 9/11 for several weeks. As a result, he contracted renal cell cancer which eventually traveled to his brain. His fight with cancer began at 9/11 and ironically ended at precisely 9:11 p.m. Thanksgiving night. God chose to take him on Thanksgiving to thank him for his strength and bravery, throughout his career and especially during the 9/11 tragedy. A whole crowd of 9/11 victims were surely awaiting his arrival in Heaven to thank him for helping their families in retrieving their loved ones who perished that horrible day.
Mickey and his family moved to Wallenpaupack Lake Estates in PA in 2004, where he became extremely active in the community. Besides being Chairman of the Neighborhood Watch Committee, Mickey was known as Uncle Sam at the WLE Fourth of July Picnics, and nicknamed the "Mayor" of WLE. He made sure to meet all new residents of the community, befriend them and introduce them to everyone in WLE. He knew and loved all residents in the WLE community and was loved by all. Mick loved bowling, fishing and baseball.
