Katharine Wolfe Rice, 88, of New Paltz, NY, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2013 with her family by her side. She lived a full and loving life, and will be dearly missed. Known to her friends as Kay, she was a Westchester County, NY resident for over 50 years, having moved to the hamlet of Chappaqua, NY in 1958.
Kay was born in Radnor, PA on February 27, 1925, and graduated from Swarthmore College, Swarthmore, PA, with a degree in English. A hard-working homemaker wholly devoted to her husband and children, she nonetheless always found time for visits with friends and acquaintances, of which she had many. Kay was a great lover of reading throughout her life and was a leader of several book groups. She enjoyed cats and bird watching, and took great pleasure in her many summers vacationing in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania.
Kay is survived by her husband of 65 years, Joseph, of New Paltz; her son Walter, of Kerhonkson, NY; her daughter Carol, of Wyckoff, NJ; her son Philip and daughter-in-law Joanne Hickey, of Ossining, NY; her son Alan, daughter-in-law Holly Wescott, and grandson Gavan, of Ashfield, MA; and two step-grandsons, Madison Cripps, of Asheville, NC and Dean Cripps, of Olympia, WA. She is also survived by her nephew, Howard Curtis, of Austin, TX, and her niece, Betsy Van Loon, of Simsbury, CT. She was predeceased in August 2013 by her only sibling, an older sister, Marjorie Curtis, of Simsbury, CT.
