  • Classic Voices, the Carbondale based a cappella singing ensemble, will begin their sixth concert season, with "The Gift of Christmas", Saturday, Dec. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in The Greater Carbondale Chamber of Commerce Building, 27 N. Main Street.
Musical director, Jay Best describes the music for the concert as a "an exploration of the old traditional music which spans many eras, the more contemporary arrangements of time honored favorites and also some unfamiliar works such as 'Gaudete' and 'The Gloucestershire Wassail.'"
"The program expresses a wide variety of emotions from the power of Handel's "The Hallelujah Chorus", filled with joyous exaltation to the tender tranquility of "Lo How a Rose" written in 16th century Germany, yet brought to our contemporary ears in the popular movie 'Love Story,'" he adds.
Also included will be "Run to Bethlehem", "The Holly and the Ivy" and the tradition spiritual "Rise Up", among the many offered in the evening of Christmas song.
Classic Voices is dedicated to the preservation and performance of diverse musical genres and the sharing of their gifts with the community.
A holiday reception will follow the concert which is free and open to the public but a donation to help defray music costs is deeply appreciated.
