  • Megyn Kelly returned to the air Friday night for the first time since insisting to children on-air that Santa and Jesus are white.
"Apparently we ignited quite a controversy the other night," Kelly said on The Kelly File, according to Yahoo News.
Kelly, who claims she didn't appear on Thursday's broadcast due to a cold, continued, "Humor is a part of what we try to bring to this show but sometimes that is lost on the humorless."
The best and worst TV reboots
The Fox News host tried to turn the focus on her critics, playing a mash-up clip featuring Jimmy Kimmel, Chris Hayes, Don Lemon and more's critics' unhappy reactions to her comments.
"This would be funny if it were not so telling about our society," Kelly said, accusing the critics of having a "kneejerk reaction to race bait." The host explained that her comments weren't "motivated by any racial fear," though many critics painted her as a racist.
    Celebs who've survived scandal
Kelly went on to say that she invited Slate writer Aisha Harris on to her program Friday night, since it was Harris' article that inspired Kelly's remarks. As to Slate denying her request, Kelly said, "Apparently that website would rather sling those arrows from their offices."
While Kelly continued to stand by her argument that Santa is white, citing Miracle on 34th Street and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade, she did concede a little on her insistence that Jesus was white. "As I've learned in the past two days, that is far from settled," Kelly admitted.
