"Shopping for a white dove especially coming into the holiday season, you would think it would be easy right? ...wrong!
"My daughter and I went shopping at the local shops in Honesdale, the big box retail and hobby stores as well as the internet with no luck.
"As my disbelief and disappointment grew, a close family friend and I made a final shopping trip to local florists. Our last stop was Honesdale Greenhouse on Main Street in Honesdale.
"When we first entered the floral shop we met Joy Schulatta, the owner, and we explained what we were looking for. To our dismay, she didn't think she could help us, but then she asked us to wait while she went in the backroom to double check.
"What happened next is the reason I want to share this story. Joy brought out a white dove with the wings out stretched ready for flight which was exactly what I was looking for. I was delighted. When I offered to pay for the dove, she refused and explained she had this dove for many years in the shop but never sold it. She actually was thinking of discarding it but changed her mind. She asked what I was going to use the dove for and we explained it would be used at my wife's memorial service since she loved the show 'Touched By An Angel' and the dove was a special symbol to her.
"Once Joy realized how special this dove was she told us now she knew why she kept this dove. It was fate that brought us to her shop.
"We thanked her and left her shop feeling inspired and genuinely touched. My friend turned to me and said 'here is your sign, she is your Angel'
"The memorial service was held on a cold, cloudy day, but at one point the sun's rays shone through the stained glass windows and highlighted the dove with iridescent colors. In that moment I felt comfort that this was a true sign from above and my wife, and that everything would be okay.
"I often reflect back to that moment and can't help but think of Joy at Honesdale Greenhouse and how her random act of kindness impacted my life.
"Thank you Joy! By the way, is it a coincidence or another sign that your name is Joy?"
