Packaging company Econo-Pak is moving to its Milford location from Sussex, N.J., and bringing some 400 jobs to Pike County.
The former Altec Lansing building is now completely converted to a food packing company.
Well-known food makers send Econo-Pak products and the company reconfigures them. For example, a cracker manufacturer may send bulk crackers, and Econo-Pak converts them into smaller packages.
Sometimes those packages are sold as variety packs. The foods are sold across the country in large club, convenience and grocery stores. In Milford, Econo-Pak will handle cookies, crackers, muffins candy and more.
Because the company handles food, there are strict guidelines for clean manufacturing.
Each company that contracts with Econo-Pak will take a few days to inspect, audit and approve the process inside the new plant on Route 6/209 in Milford Township, Econo-Pak Chief Executive Officer P.J. Wiebel said.
