HAWLEY - A passion for antique Vaseline glass and a love of reading and books have combined to benefit the Hawley Public Library.
Eric and Ida Martin of Hawley offer informative personal tours of their exhibit of the beautiful lemon-colored glass in the bottom level of the Hawley Antique Exchange. All that they request in return is a donation for the Library.
“We like the library. Everyone should have a good library,” notes Mrs. Martin. At a recent donation presentation, Library Board Vice President Susann George, accepted the donation from the Martins. Behind them was an exhibit of some of the glass which when, exposed to ultraviolet light, becomes a brilliant eye-catching green.
On receiving the check, Mrs. George thanked the couple noting, “This donation benefits not just our Library but Library users of all ages in Pike and Wayne Counties, a number that is constantly growing. We very much appreciate the Martins’ public-spirited commitment to our community.”
Permanent area residents since 1996, the Martins offer their tours by appointment. Those interested can contact the Antique Exchange at 570-226-1711.
