MILFORD - Safe Haven of Pike County, Inc. welcomes this April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month for 2014. The month-long awareness incorporates community outreach, professional training and family-friendly events to support victims/survivors of sexual assault and encourages the community to be involved in many different ways.
    Safe Haven anticipates the campaign will appeal to Pike County residents with a diverse  grouping of events, offering something for everyone. The month-long outreach will begin  April 2, with a proclamation at the 9 a.m. meeting of the Pike County Commissioners. Following the meeting, Safe Haven’s Executive Director David Bever will enlist the men of Pike County and surrounding areas to sign and show their support to Stand up Against Sexual Assault.
   There will be a public petition available in the Commissioners’ Meeting Room in the Pike County Administrative Offices located at 506 Broad Street, Milford for all men in the community to sign, in support of eradicating sexual assault. The public is invited to attend the forum.
    There will be a month-long awareness campaign events.
 • A four-part documentary/lecture series: “The History of the Women’s Movement in America” will be held every Thursday in April from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the Pike County Public Library. The library is located at 119 East Harford Street in Milford. The event is free and open to all.
• “The Shoe Project” will be displayed all month at Safe Haven and throughout the community. The project is hosted by local businesses and highlighting stories of survivors of sexual assault.
• “Dinner at The Grotto,” a fundraiser for Safe Haven, will be held April 4, at The Grotto at The Zaloom House, 508 Harford Street in Milford, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
• “SAAM’s Coffee House” will happen at Safe Haven’s offices on Sunday, April 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. People are welcome to stop by for free coffee and noshes, as well as important information about sexual assault.
• Community  and family discussion: “Using children’s literature to talk to kids about sexual assault.” The event will be at the Pike County Library on Saturday, April 12, from10 a.m. to 12 p.m., parents and young children are invited to attend the free event.
• There will be a sale of framed prints at Jen Murphy Fitness: The Studio, 113 W. Harford Street, during Milford’s “Art After Dark.” The sale will be Saturday evening, April 12, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with all proceeds benefitting Safe Haven.
• The 3rd Annual Child Safety Fair will be Saturday, April 26, at St. Vincent de Paul Parish Hall, 101 St. Vincent Drive, Milford, PA, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and will offer information for parents and fun activities for the children, at no charge to the public.
• On Sunday, April 27, there will be a “Women’s Empowerment Event” on the Court House lawn, 410 Broad Street in Milford, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The event will engage the community by presenting yoga, self-defense and safety. The event is free and open to the public.
• Informative tabletop displays/community presentations will be at Wayne Bank and at various locations throughout April.
    Safe Haven will also host The Tri-State Conference on Human Trafficking: A Training for Human Service and Law Enforcement Professionals on Wednesday, April 16, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Best Western Inn at Hunt’s Landing in Matamoras.
