  •   Superintendent John J. Donahue announced April 4th the body of a Columbia, Pennsylvania man was found in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, near Lake Lenape, in the borough of Delaware Water Gap at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Thomas Stewart, 51, of Columbia, Pennsylvania, had been missing for over a week.  He was last seen exiting his vehicle at Resort Point Overlook on Route 611 on Tuesday, March 25.
The National Park Service Search and Rescue (SAR) team initiated a search of the area around Resort Point and Mount Minsi on Friday, March 28, and continued through the weekend with assistance from New Jersey State Park Police, New Jersey Search and Rescue, and canine teams from Ramapo Rescue Dog Association. New Jersey State Police, Special Operations Section, Aviation Bureau, searched the area using a helicopter.  Search efforts yielded no leads and were hampered by weather conditions. The search was called off on Monday, March 31, but NPS rangers continued to investigate Stewart’s disappearance.
Stewart’s body was discovered by a visitor who was hiking in the Lake Lenape area.  The cause of death is unknown at this time.  An autopsy will be performed today by Monroe County Coroner Robert M. Allen.  “Our deepest sympathies go out to Mr. Stewart’s family and friends at this time,” said Superintendent Donahue.
