  • HAWLEY - Children enrolled in Hawley’s HeadStart classes and Wayne County Consortium Early Intervention classes will line up and head to the Wayne County Family Center on Wednesday, April 9, to participate in activities celebrating the 2014 PA One Book—Stripes of All Types. It’s all part of celebrating national Week of the Young Child (https://www.naeyc.org/woyc).
Written and illustrated by Susan Stockdale, the PA One Book, Every Young Child selection, Stripes of All Types explores how animals around the world benefit from their stripes. The book’s rhymes and bold, bright images are engaging. The HeadStart and Early Intervention classes will enjoy a variety of activities focused on stripes, patterns, habitats, camouflage, geography and much more.
Stripes, the focus of the book, will be brought to life with three-dimensional paintings created by Western Wayne High School art students. Children will be able to step into selected pages of the book and take a turn being a striped fish in the ocean, a striped bird among the cattails and a striped wild animal in the jungle.
The PA One Book, Every Young Child is an annual state-wide initiative to promote early literacy with the goal of having every four-year-old in Pennsylvania be familiar with each years’ specific book. All Pennsylvania public libraries have copies of this year’s and previous years’ selections. The website www.paonebook.org has activities, templates and resources for making Stripes of All Types a fun and enriching experience for families across the state.
