  • WALLENPAUPACK - Juniors at Wallenpaupack Area High School: Emily Bolton, Lacey Kuhlmann and Devon Kopesky recently job shadowed at a few area businesses.
Visiting Horizon Dental, Bolton learned about the dental field as she wishes to become a hygienist. She said, “it was eye-opening to learn the amount of education—and the years of specialized training—dentists commit to in order to practice dentistry.” Bolton was interested to learn that poor dental hygiene may lead to heart disease and was appreciative that the staff identified the various instruments and their purposes. “It was an unforgettable experience,” said Bolton.
Kuhlmann had the opportunity to job shadow with Theresa Hessling and the Theresa’s Hair Revue beauticians. Kuhlmann commented, “I enjoyed meeting everyone; they were so welcoming and friendly. I especially loved curling hair stylist Jennifer’s hair.” Expressing her gratitude to Hessling and her staff, Kuhlmann remarked working with the staff was a great experience because now she is excited for her future career.
“Without the cooperation and generosity,” of Theresa’s Hair Revue and Horizon Dental,   Career Coordinator Colleen Edwards said, “Wallenpaupack students would not be able to connect their education to their future plans in such a practical way.”
Devon Kopesky observed Dr. Amy Neal from Lakeside Vision during a recent job shadowing experience. He was able to observe as Neal performed some routine eye exams and an eye ultrasound. Kathy Dresch and Holly Sullivan, technicians, showed Kopesky the optical equipment and explained how its function and operation.
Barbara Tyson, office manager and optician, described the proper way to dispense eye wear. Kopesky said, the day was a “very valuable learning experience,” and was thankful Edwards was able to arrange the opportunity.
