LAKE REGION - The 11th annual Lake Region Hometown Kidsfest, along with the 6th annual Pride Ride, was a phenomenal success, said Jim Shook, co-owner of Lake Region and Hawley IGA markets. While full figures were still being calculated, he said that participation surpassed last year.
Held under sunny skies this past Sunday June 8, an estimated 400 to 500 people attended the Kidsfest and car show, and 173 motorcycle operators were signed up for the Pride Ride. Last year, 103 were registered for the 77-mile ride.
Funds raised by the annual event for through the non-profit Community Dock Foundation. Proceeds from the Pride Ride benefit Hawley Police, Fire Department and Ambulance companies, and Hawley Park & Recreation Commission.
Kidsfest and car show dollars go to assist families in need. The Foundation gave away $1,000 each, Shook said, to the following beneficiaries: Chelsey and Theonn Latourette, who lost their barn and livestock in a fire two weeks ago; Sandy Quick, a Hawley market employee, for a medical need; Greg Scigliano for his son's medical bills and Adam Tigue for his daughter's medical bills.
