  • HAWLEY-  Results of the painters and repair crews working to revitalize Hawley's downtown become more evident which each new day. The Benjamin Moore paint contest, "Main Street Matters," involves 22 commercial buildings on Main Avenue between Church and River streets.
A grand celebration is planned for Friday, June 13 from 1 to 4 p.m. on Keystone Street by the diner. Hosted by Benjamin Moore, Borough officials, Downtown Hawley Partnership (DHP) and merchants, the public is welcome. Tents will be set up where Mayor Kevin Hawk will administer the ceremonial "final paint stroke." There will be a "3-D Benjamin Moore" cake fashioned like Main Avenue, a barbecue, music and other events. Local artist Juan Espino will display scenes he has painted of downtown Hawley.
Adding to the scene is an assortment of new, red steel benches, flower pots, trash recptacles and biike racks that were purchased through a state DCED grant. The purchase was made by the Borough in conjunction with the DHP.
These pictures were taken June 10th. Grimm Construction is the general contractor. The buildings are being refurbished courtesy Benjamin Moore and a matching state DCED grant. See www.neagle.com for more photos.
