  • HAWLEY - “Literary Elements” is the theme of the Hawley Public Library’s 2014 Adult Summer Reading Program. Science touches virtually every aspect of our lives from astronomy to zoology. Scientific research supports the fact that reading and engaging in brain teasers exercises the mind to keep it healthy and active.
"So keep your brain active and join the summer excitement," said Maura Rottmund.
“Literary Elements” combines science and literature and ties in with programs “Fizz, Boom, Read” for children and “Spark a Reaction” for teens. The program will run for five weeks from June 30 to August 1. All you have to do to participate is:
    • Register at the library (must have a valid library card).
    • Read a minimum of three books between June 30 and August 1.
    • Submit reviews of the books you read and tell them why you liked or didn’t like it!
    • Enter your name for each title read into a weekly drawing. The more you read, the better your chance of winning a prize.
Participants can discover new books, new authors, old favorites or a new subject to explore.  In addition to reading you can challenge your brain with a weekly crossword puzzle, a matching game, quizzes, and a geography bee.
Need more reasons to participate?  "Summer Reading allows you to experience a fun summer activity, explore new and different reading interests, meet other like-minded adults, and be an excellent model of lifelong learning to all ages," said Rottmund.
Registration begins on Monday, June 16. Please visit the library at 103 Main Avenue or call 570-226-4620 for more information or to register.
