  • WALLENPAUPACK -Wallenpaupack Area School District's budget approval has been held up while the Pennsylvania legislators decide on the statewide budget.
Superintendent Michael Silsby told the School Board June 13th that there were a couple areas of the state budget that could affect how much money is filtered down to Wallenpaupack, by as much as $600,000.
That includes a Ready to Learn Block Grant that was proposed by Governor Tom Corbett, which would translate to about $260,000 for Wallenpaupack if the General Assembly approves it.              Additionally, the Governor's proposed budget for the Pension System is significantly different than the rate set by the Pennsylvania Public School Employees' Retirement System (PSERS). The difference could mean approximately another $300,000 to Wallenpaupack.
The state must approve the budget by June 30. Instead of acting on the school budget June 13th, the Board agreed to wait for a special meeting scheduled June 30 at 8 a.m., in the High School Library.
