  • GREENTOWN-     “Half of the kids using the Carlton Drake Park in Newfoundland come from Greene Township but Greene Township is still paying a token amount toward maintenance of the Park,” complained resident Roger Altemeier to the Greene Township supervisors at their meeting,Wednesday evening July 2nd.
“Mike Peifer and others have mowed the Park,” noted chair Ed Simon.
    ••• Representation before funding
“I have suggested that the Park should be governed by a park authority,” stated supervisor Gary Carlton. “There should be a regular authority or commission with Greene Township representation. Prior to volunteering tax dollars, we need representation.”
“Dreher Township has a Park Tax on their residents. I don't want to hand out money without having a say in how it is spent,” he continued. “Volunteers from both townships would cut costs.”
“I am in favor of putting money into the Park but the first move should be from the Dreher Supervisors requesting a meeting with us,” Carlton said. “Dreher Supervisors have not asked for a greater donation from us.”
“An authority or commission makes sense,” Solicitor Jeffrey Treat added. “The commission could consist of a supervisor from each township and a resident from each township.”
“Some municipalities join to have a Park and Rec Commission, something to serve all the people,” supervisor MaryAnn Hubbard stated.
“We need to make an effort to work with Dreher Township for the good of the Park,” Altemeier reiterated. “Road maintenance, garbage collection, electric bills need paid.”
