  • Lecture on restoration of Dorflinger Factory buildings this Sunday

  • WHITE MILLS - Kurt Reed, curator, and Jim Asselstine, owner and director, of the new Dorflinger Factory Museum will give a lecture on Sunday, July 20 entitled “Creating a New Museum in White Mills – The Restoration of the Dorflinger Factory.” 
         The lecture, part of the Dorflinger Factory Museum’s “Third Sunday in the Museum” lecture series, will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. in the “Green Room” on the top floor of the 1883 Dorflinger Cutting Shop, in the back of the building.
       The Dorflinger Factory Museum is located at the corner of PA Route 6 and Elizabeth Street, at the blinking light, in White Mills.  The lecture is free of charge.
       The lecture will discuss the history of the Dorflinger Companies in Brooklyn, NY and White Mills, examples of the fine cut and engraved glass tableware produced by the Dorflinger Companies, the restoration of the 1883 Dorflinger Cutting Shop and the circa 1888 Dorflinger Factory Office Building in White Mills, and the creation of the new Dorflinger Factory Museum, whose mission is to preserve and protect the industrial heritage of the Dorflinger companies. 
        Mr. Reed and Mr. Asselstine will also discuss the existing displays of Dorflinger glassware in the Museum and plans for future exhibits as the Museum prepares for the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Dorflinger factory in White Mills in 2015.
         Tours of the Museum will be provided before and after the lecture, beginning at 1 p.m. and ending at 4 p.m.
