HAWLEY - Last week, thanks to fast-working volunteers and several donations, the Hawley Wilson-Kelch American Legion Post 311, at 521 Church Street, received a patriotic makeover.
Following the Benjamin Moore Main Street Matters work, that occurred in Hawley during the past few weeks, there was hope that the Post could receive a paint job too. But, because Benjamin Moore would only give $10 off a gallon, Post Commander Bill Kemmet and Laura Becker did a little foot work that led to Home Depot giving supplies and volunteers. In a matter of a few days, the entire front of the Post was painted red, white and blue. The paint was donated by Behr Paint and C & C Equipment Rental Co. in Hawley donated the lift.
Kemmet said he really appreciated the donations and work that was done. Plus, the colors look great. The team captain from the Honesdale Home Depot, Laura Baxter said she volunteered to paint because "its for a good cause." Spending the day painting, Baxter said was the least the volunteers could do, considering the service the veterans gave for everyone else.
