WESTFALL TWP. - Westfall Township has received an application from Peebles department store to open in the Kmart plaza.
The retailer plans to occupy 13,000 square feet in the space formerly occupied by Fashion Bug and the Gallery of Sound, between Kmart and Subway.
Peebles is owned by Stage Stores Inc., which operates more than 850 stores in 40 states under the names Bealls, Goody’s, Palais Royal, Peebles and Stage.
The Houston-based company will hire between 40 and 50 store associates with a mix of full- and part-time jobs, said Bria Lundy of Stage Stores. To apply online, go to www.peebles.com.
The Westfall store will be the 35th Peebles in Pennsylvania. A Peebles store opened in November 2102 on Route 209 in Brodheadsville near the intersection of Weir Lake Road.
Peebles features brands like Nike, Levi’s, Dockers, Carters, Jockey, Skechers, U.S. Polo Association and Nautica.
A grand opening and official ribbon cutting celebration for the Westfall store will take place at 8:45 a.m. Oct. 16. The first customers in line will receive a free fashion tote bag while supplies last.
Shoppers can register to win a $500 shopping spree and other prizes throughout the grand opening weekend.
In fiscal year 2013, the company reported $1.6 billion in sales. Stage Stores currently has some 14,500 employees nationwide. The company opened 29 stores in 2013.
The application in Westfall is for a building plan fit-out, needed because the company will outfit the interior store to its needs.
