  • NARROWSBURG, NY - Local author Michael Lewis, PhD, will sign copies of his new book, “The Rise of Consciousness and the Development of Emotional Life,” on Saturday, August 9 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Delaware Arts Center in Narrowsburg, NY.
Synthesizing decades of influential research and theory, “The Rise of Consciousness” demonstrates the centrality of consciousness for emotional development, from infancy through the development of self-conscious emotions of empathy, envy, and embarrassment, and, later, shame, guilt, and pride.
Lewis is a university distinguished professor of pediatrics and psychiatry and director of the Institute for the Study of Child Development at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He is a professor of psychology, education, nursing and biomedical engineering at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and serves on the Executive Committee of the Cognitive Science Center.
