  • HAWLEY - The Ritz Company Playhouse will do a benefit performance of its slapstick musical farce Merrily We Dance and Sing this Saturday evening, August 9th starting at 8 p.m. A portion of the proceeds for the evening’s performance will go to support the Wayne County Historical Society (WCHS).
Tickets are on sale now for $12. They can be purchased at the WCHS museum (810 Main Street in Honesdale), reserved with a credit card over the phone by calling the museum 570-253-3240, or purchased the night of the performance. Be sure to mention the WCHS at the box office when purchasing.
Merrily We Dance and Sing is slapstick, madcap musical farce with music and lyrics by Billy Van Zandt and Jane Milmore with additional Music by Ed Alton. The plot (as described on vanzandtmilmore.com) revolves around the performance of an original operetta called “The Naughty Boy” by a small-town community theater group. During the performance an escaped mental patient gets loose in the theater –eventually hiding from the local police on the stage- which forces the actors to improvise new plot lines, rewrite dialogue, and take the opportunity to invent their own happy endings.  “Imagine Gilbert & Sullivan meet the Marx Brothers.”
Call 570-253-3240, look on WCHS’s Facebook page or stop by the WCHS for more information.
