  • LACKAWAXEN - Dip your toes into the world of astronomy on the beautiful shores of the Upper Delaware River.  Join Park Rangers on Saturday, August 23rd at 8:30 p.m. at the Zane Grey Museum in Lackawaxen for a star filled program on the night sky of the Upper Delaware River Valley.
Everyone has seen the night sky and the stars in it. But how much do you really know about them? Can you tell a planet from a star, a meteor from a planet or a satellite from a meteor; join us and find out. Learn how the stars were formed and have fun locating the different constellations that can be seen. The program will start with a short presentation which will open your eyes to the objects in the night sky.  Afterwards an opportunity to star gaze and locate the constellations and celestial objects you have just learned about will take place.
As an added bonus this program is occurring during the overlapping of three different meteor showers - the Delta Aquarids, Alpha Capricornids and the Perseids. The nearly new moon will make viewing the stars even more spectacular!
During this program you will make your own star chart and learn how to use it. You will also have the opportunity to make your own constellation viewer to help you remember and identify your favorite constellation during future star gazing opportunities.
