LAKE REGION - The second annual Pocono Lake Region 13.1, half marathon event is scheduled for Sunday, September 28th. Hosted by The Chamber of the Northern Poconos and co-chaired by Chamber Board Members Christie Kennedy-Augustine and Bob Kiesendahl, the marathon will begin at the Lakeside Elementary School in Honesdale and finish at the Wallenpaupack Area High School track.
      Registration is online only and is open to anyone 16 years and older. The entry fee is $55 per person and is due by August 31st or $65 from September 1st to 27th, with registration online at
    Area restaurants and accommodations are encouraged to offer specials to the participants. The Chamber will list the accommodations specials on the 13.1 website page, and all restaurant specials will be printed and placed in the participant registration bags. A portion of the proceeds of the half
marathon will be donated to local fire police that assist with the event.
    Other significant sponsors/partners to date include Wayne County Tourism, Lake Region IGA/Hawley Market Supermarket, Bold Gold Media Group, No Limits Physical Therapy, Ski Big Bear, Horizon Dental Care,and Senator Lisa Baker paid for by the Baker for Senate Committee. Many levels of sponsorship are still available and will receive extensive advertising through diverse radio, billboard, and publication outlets. In-kind sponsorships are valuable as well, and will receive appropriate sponsor level marketing.  
    The Chamber is asking for the support of businesses and organizations throughout Wayne and Pike Counties. There are many ways to get involved, and many volunteers are needed in order to make the half marathon a success. Volunteers are needed to man water stations, set up, start line, traffic control, clean up, food tent, finish line, clean up and so much more.
    The Chamber is also asking for the support of people residing along the route to show their enthusiasm for Wayne County by cheering the runners on by playing music, holding signs or if it is a hot day people can cool the runners down with a hose. Groups and organizations are also encouraged to set up along the route to cheer on the runners.
    Sponsors and volunteers do not have to be members of The Chamber.
